Xiaomi Sound Outdoor bass test
April 17, 2025
Recently I came to the conclusion that I was in need of a sound system since all I had were devices with inbuilt speakers, wired JBL earphones and Apple Airpods Pro 2 knock-offs. Naturally, I started looking at some 2.1 PC speakers, but found that even the cheapest ones with decent enough kick (30W) were going for 60+ EUR in my country.
Since I also plan on listening to music outdoors, and especially when working in my shed on some upcoming projects, I started looking at some Bluetooth speakers. Up until this point, JBL speakers were the main choice in most categories, but now it seems that Xiaomi has started producing some great alternatives, especially in the budget range. For JBL Go you have Xiaomi Sound Pocket, and for JBL Flip you have Xiaomi Sound Outdoor. The real kicker here is that they not only undercut JBL’s prices, but also manage to compete in sound quality.
I got lucky when I needed to test the speakers, as I knew a girl that got the Xiaomi Sound Pocket as a gift when ordering her phone, so I managed to test it, and the 5W output was simply too low on power for me. So naturally I looked at the next best thing – the Xiaomi Sound Outdoor. It has 30W power output and some nice features, like 12 hour battery life and water resistance. The speaker usually goes for around 60 EUR, but I managed to get mine for little over 47 EUR.
When I was still deciding on whether to buy it, I found some videos with bass tests where the bass was present enough for my taste, but I didn’t find any good videos with hip-hop music, so naturally, once I got mine, I decided to film a video with some hip-hop samples that I enjoy. I found that my phones microphone didn’t pick up on as much bass as the speaker produces in reality, but perhaps it can be helpful for some.
