PC in a Soviet TV
April 8, 2025
As a kid, I used to have many hobbies. One of them was PC modding. I really loved it, because it was similar to tuning cars, only on a smaller scale and much cheaper, therefore affordable for a kid.
I’ve been feeling nostalgic and I’m planning to start this hobby again. I did some searching online and managed to find some pictures of a mod I did back then. It’s more than 15 years old. The idea of it was taking out all the internals of a small Soviet era TV and building a PC in it.
I semi-finished the project about four years ago, but do to some life circumstances I don’t have it with me anymore, and I didn’t take pictures of the build either. That’s why this time around I’m going to document the whole process. Currently I’m on the lookout for a TV to use as base of the build, pictured below.
My plan is to find a small soviet TV that’s the same as the original one, or, if I’m unable to, one that’s as close to the original as possible. It should fit a regular size PSU and an mATX motherboard with rest of the components.
Returning to the original build, you’ll see that I managed to recover a photo of the TV with it’s internals taken out, ready to take in the PC components.
Back when I was a kid I didn’t do much on the project apart from throwing in some PC components that I had laying around. However, when I restarted it four years ago, I installed a proper back plate and motherboard mounts from a donor PC case. That’s also the plan for the upcoming project, as well as installing an RX580 and setting up a Hackintosh with macOS, so stay tuned!
