PC in a Soviet TV

April 8, 2025

As a kid, I used to have many hobbies. One of them was PC modding. I really loved it, because it was just like tuning cars, only cheaper and not as complicated.

I’ve been feeling nostalgic and I’m planning to start this hobby again. I searched online and managed to find some pictures of a mod I did a long time ago. It’s more than 15 years old. The main idea was to take out all the internals of a small Soviet era TV and build a PC in it.

I got back to almost finish the project around four years ago, but the final product is stuck in the trunk of my car that got impounded in Gibraltar and I don’t have it with me anymore. Neither do I have any pictures. That’s why this time around I’m going to document the whole process. Currently I’m looking for a TV to use as a case for the build, similar to the one pictured below.

The plan is to find a small soviet TV that’s the same as the original one, or, if I’m not able to, one that’s as close to the original as possible. It should fit a regular size PSU and an mATX motherboard with rest of the components.

As per the original build, you’ll see that I managed to recover a photo of the TV with it’s internals taken out, waiting for some PC components to take their place.

Back when I was a kid I didn’t do much on the project apart from throwing in some PC components that I had laying around. However, when I restarted it four years ago, I installed a proper back plate and motherboard mounts from a donor PC case. That’s also the plan for the upcoming project, as well as installing an RX580 and setting up a Hackintosh with macOS, so stay tuned!
